Amuse I - June 2008

The Laundromat From Hell

June 27th 2008 03:00
During the course of my day today, I was confronted with all different kinds of situations. It just seemed as though everybody that came into my path was, well, let's just say in rare form. I am sure that everyone goes through days like these from time to time. I am by no means complaining, crying out about how bad I got it! But I don’t know, by the time the day was half way done, I was looking around to see if there were any hidden cameras, just like that old show Candid Camera.
It sometimes feels like there are a group of folks that are out to mess with you, maybe your number got drawn from a hat, or maybe it is just a big part of life, I don’t know. But I must share this with you. Cuz, yer not gonna believe this.

Woolite day at the laundramat

I stop at the laundromat, which is a huge drag because I hate to do laundry to begin with, but it is a part of life. Now I aint the poster person for sanity, but the cast of characters in my neighborhood, are like something out of a comic book. It’s like all the major networks worst characters came to life from the dumpsters of all the movie studios, and packed up their bags, and personalities and moved here. It could be compared to the island of misfit toys, but at least those toys weren’t cruel and evil.

Gimmie Yer Clothes!!

I get to the Laundromat and see this SUV parked right out front, so I enter on the side of the building. I see a woman doing laundry and I see she has a few loads to do. So I just put my clothes in the washer, and drove back home. I come back a half hour later, the lady is still there, I think nothing of it, and put my clothes in the dryer. I look at the time and make a game plan to come back in an hour. I come back in an hour, walk over to the dryer, which had a full load of my clothes an hour ago, but was now only ¼ full. Where are the rest of my clothes? The lady is just folding her clothes, ignoring me. I walk over to another dryer near this woman, and I see some of my towels, and a few of my jeans rolling around, so I open the door to the dryer, and the woman (Thought she was a mute for a while there) says, THOSE ARE MY CLOTHES!

the laundry lady from hell

I started to take my jeans out and I turned to her and said, no. These are my jeans………..and towels……….and 3 of my socks. Where are the rest of my clothes? I look down at the pile she was folding and saw some of my PJ bottoms, along with a few of my t-shirts. Now I’ll save you the rest of the details, but the lady must have gotten confused, and taken half of my clothes from the dryer, and moved them, for whatever reason. She then blamed one of the girls that works there. So, I am trying to figure out what is going on here, she wouldn’t let me look through her piles of folded laundry. She starts yelling at me and pulling MY clothes out of my hands! At this point, I was getting traumatized. Oh God, PAAALEASE get me outta this neighborhood??
It could very well be she was having a bad day. It is very clear that I was having a bad day. The neighborhood isn’t anymore dysfunctional than any other. ( Although there are people that would agree it is a bit more dysfunctional than other parts of the city)
